WHAT TO BRING
Fishing
Rods
Reels
Tackle Box
Net (1 per boat)
Depth Finder (1 per boat)
Minnow Bucket (1 per boat)
Worm Container (optional, Dinty Moore Beef Stew Cans work nice)
Stringer (Sometimes nice to have two per boat)
Needle Nosed Pliers, Clippers, Knife (Tether for your pliers, you know who you are)
Clothes
Couple pair of pants
Few pair of shorts
Underwear (one of the most frequently forgotten Items)
Socks (another frequently forgotten item)
A couple of towels
Two pair of shoes
Flip Flops or slippers for the Cabin
Fitted sheet for mattress (optional, and by optional, I mean Trent is the only person who does this)
Hat (At least one that has the ability to cover your ears)
Rain Suit (This is not optional and make it the last thing you put in your duffle bag)
Miscellaneous
Sunblock (In 2009 we were 10 feet from the sun for about 4 days)
Bug Spray (It better have deet or you are wasting your money)
Fillet Knife
Sunglasses (May want to consider an extra pair as well)
Clear safety glasses (great for the driver of the boat in the evenings, keeps the bugs out of your eyes)
Stick a golf or small towel in your tackle box.
Krazy glue – Great for patching up small cuts
Flashlight and batteries – The walk from one cabin to the other gets a lot longer in the dark.
Camera – Disposable or Digital – If digital, don’t forget the batteries
Any tobacco products you might use – Sweet lord, you don’t want to buy it up there.
Tips:
Line your duffel bag with a big trash bag before you put your clothes in it (It will rain on the way up or down the river) and put an extra one in there for on the way back if need be.
Wash your hands before taking your contacts out. (I found this out the hard way, not only does in burn like heck but bug spray is impossible to get off your contacts)
Bring some type of waterproof bag to keep your raingear in the boat (Also handy when you start peeling off layers)
I spoke to Richard,Sunday morning at 11:30AM he sounded terrible,has a bad cold,due to bad weather,one week 35 to 40 degrees below zero,next week 35 above zero.
ReplyDeleteI told Richard we have 14 people coming to camp this year and that water in the back cabin would very much be appreciated. He said he would have plenty of time to fix it. Richard ,Rodney and two other fellows are going to camp this Wednesday to cut ice and catch a few pickeral. Season starts early for the natives. As soon as Irecover from my final 22 days of work we will get a meeting set up to get this trip organized. new rule this year, all first timers have to fish with cane poles and a bobber.
4 months and counting

Did Richard say anything about the new 18 ft. Lund fishing boats with 25 hp motors? I'm sure he is going to stock the wood shed as well. We won't recognize the camp when we get there this year.
ReplyDeleteI got a quick question for you Dad, since you are going to be retired by the time this year's trip takes place, are you still going to fish or are you going to be like Andy R. and just sit around the cabin all day?
No new boats and no new motors same old canoes and paddles. camp will be refurbished by us and yes I will be fishing daylight till dusk. Catch me if you can.

LOL
If a few extra chairs found their way to the Chutes that would be great. Although we took worms from a dead guy one year, we could probably put together some type of covert op to steal a couple chairs from Pine Lake. Speaking of worms....Three flats will probably be in order this year. There's another 7 bucks a man. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, one more thing. Just get the tractor to the chutes. We'll get it running.
