I have been thinking that over the years we have made this trip with lots of people. Some have come and gone, some have left there mark. But I think that a few have done more than that, some have made this the trip what we all love. In honor of that I would like to nominate a few to the Chutes Hall of Fame. First of all the Man who started it all. Andy Reightman: Over 80 trips, probably hundreds of people turned on to the trip. He has taught all of us Little Joe and the fact that you don't drive all that way just to fish. Jerry Virtue: Jerry shared Andy's belief that fishing was not the main theme of the trip. He would wet a line in the afternoon and was always ready for a good hand of showdown. He was also your man if you just wanted to stay up late and shoot the bull. Jerry was always the ultimate host. Bob Couts: He has not missed a trip since 1977, and has made two trips at least 4 years. Dad has become the driving factor of this trip. If not for Dad I'm not sure that this trip still exists. He also has made this trip a major part of Me and Trent's life. Now with Andy Couts making a couple trips, a third generation has begun. Steve Couts: He made his first trip in 1976 and brought Dad up the following year and the rest is history. Although Uncle Steve missed a few trips over the years, he has been a constant factor in the long term success of the trip. Uncle Steve fishes harder than any of the previously mentioned Hall of Fame'rs and is always in good spirits and very helpful to anyone who needs a hand including Anchor Boy. Uncle Steve also has burned this trip into the souls Ryan and Arron so he has a legacy of his own that will keep the trip alive for years to come. In my mind those guys were shoe ins, But I have one more that may create some controversy. Trent Couts: Started making this trip at the age of 6 and has just completed his 31st trip. I think he is more passionate about this trip than anyone else in the HOF and I would say He also fishes the hardest. I think he is our best chance to keep this trip alive years down the road and as I mentioned in earlier postings I think he is the best boat captain in camp with Aaron Couts a close second. But here is the part that is not going to sit well with the older guys and Ryan. After the year that Trent just had I think that he may be the best fisherman in the history of the trip. If not Trent than who? He catches more than his share of fish, but had the rap of not catching any big fish. Well those days are behind us. I mean I think that Ryan, Aaron, and I all catch a lot of fish and you can't leave Bernie out of the conversation. Even though Bernie looks and acts like he does not have a clue he has caught a lot of nice fish over the years. But in a argument over inches our fish are left wanting. I can't wait to see the comments over this one but before I end this posting I just wanted to thank all of you for treating Andy so well this year. He had a great time and is looking forward to going back, but I know kids can be trying and can even be a wet blanket on every ones fun. You all were very kind and showed great patience. Thanks again. |

Hall Of Fame

I would agree with the first 4 and I don't even know where to begin with #5. I mean, there are some glaring numbers in his stats to be a HOF inductee. 29 straight trips without a 20 inch walleye, boat destruction, no pike in a 7 hour tournament, wallet misplacement. Now, with that being said, he had a hall of fame type year this year.
ReplyDeleteWould you put this guy in the Baseball Hall of Fame?
1975-1995 .168 avg 3 HRs/yr
1996 : .350 avg with a batting title and 25 homeruns.
Actually, if we want to get down to brass tacks, we shouldn't be putting Trent in the Hall of Fame. We should be testing him for performance enhancing drugs.
It was pleasure to have Andy up there. He is polite, never got into any trouble, and never ever complains. I loved having him up there.
Camp Directer:
ReplyDeleteI think the Hall of Fame is a great honor. There's nothing better than Dad,sons,grand-sons,brothers,nephews and friends heading north to one of the greatest places I have and will have ever been.
There's nothing better than spending a week with family and friends in the great North, aggitating, agrivating, pissing each other off and helping each other through out the whole week. My only wish is that the camp will be there for ever so we can continue many more years of fine fishing and good times. Thanks Troy for the kind words it means alot to old Dad and proud you bragged on your brother.
I am truly honored that many of you think that deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as many of the past greats. However, I am not surprised that some(Ryan) would be against my induction into the Hall of Fame. Think about it, he had to sit there all week and watch me pull in hog after hog. I must say that his displeasure with my success was becoming evident by the end of the week. To Ryan's defense, he was a solid net man all week. He never missed a fish. He had plenty of practice because he was spending any time catching any of his own.
ReplyDeleteLet me know when the banquet is for my induction. I need time to get my acceptance speech ready.
It was truly a great week. Fishing was excellent considering we were about 10 yards from the sun for 4 days. We released more nice fish this week than we used to catch in a week. Nice being up there with three generations of Coutses and our extended family from Woodsfield and beyond. Hopefully we can make it four generations someday. That would make a great picture on the rock.
ReplyDeleteAs for the hall of fame, I nominate our ten man team. Great group, no whiners (other than while waiting for our delayed flights, when there were ten), no slackers.
Anchor Boy, I'm glad that you had another great week. Next year maybe we'll have a rainy day and can play more cards. Us old guys can't stay up very late any more.
My hat is in mothballs for now.I might get it out for Halloween, but probably not until our next trip.
One more thing-- Mudslinger- good week, but your not in on the first ballot. You're still a young man and could have another good year 10 to 15 years from now. That could sway me.
You,ve got to be kidding me. Your oldest son must have talked to you. If I don't deserve a first ballot induction, no one does. Got my pictures back today. Before next trip someone needs to teach Ryan how to take a picture without his finger in it. Nice pictures- I will see if I can figure out how to put them on the site.
