Ontario MNR Strikes Again

Well the cost of your fishing license just went up. Actually, the license is 43.50 but once you tack on the extra 9.00 for the Outdoors Card you have to apply for, the price goes up to 52.50...plus tax I am sure. I am not sure how they came up with this but I imagine it went something like this:

MNR Guy 1 : I'm bored with this same routine.

MNR Guy 2: Me too. Taking people's fish and fining them to keep our country going is getting old.

1: What can we do?

2: We can raise the price of fishing licenses 9 bucks.

1: Are you kidding!? People will revolt.

2: What if we gave them a card for their extra 9 dollars.

1: What kind of card?

2: A fishing card.

1: Well aren't we going to charge an extra 9.00 for hunting as well?

2: Fine. A hunting/fishing card.

1: That's too long a name.

2: What aboot Outdoors Card!?

1: Awesome. Does this mean we can't take peoples fish anymore?

2: Of course not, as a matter of fact, here comes a truck and van right now...

Not to fear however, we just apply for it when we get our license and they give us a temporary "paper" card to keep with us until ours arrives in the mail in 4-6 weeks. Rest easy, Aaron.

  1. Hey, what do you think about not bringing any fish home this year. It would reduce the price of the license we would have to buy, and it would eliminate the possibility of getting fined on the way home. If you think about it, we always bring home the bigger fish we catch. In my opinion, the bigger the fish the worse they are to eat. The meat is too thick. The best eating fish are the ones around 14 inches long. When we do bring back the fish it usually ends up in dad's freezer or at Larry dillon's wild game feed. If we did want to have a fish fry, we could just use the fish that the guys catch at Lake Erie. I don't know how much this would save, but it is worth a thought.

  2. I think I agree. Each person can still bring back 2 walleye. 1 greater than 18 inches. An 8 day conservation license is 25.25 vs 43.50 for a regular license and it is only 40 less fillets. We still bring 40 back with us and everybody saves 18.25.

  3. other ways to save 18 dollars- drink 1 less case of beer. buy 3 fewer tail dancers. drive 55 mph the whole trip- buy a vehicle that runs on urine( that would really save a lot. the price of fishing and hunting had to increase because the natural resources dept employs about 1 of 4 canadians.

  4. Trent, We'll put you in charge of the fish dinners since you specialize in the 14 inch and under variety( the good eaters). I just hope you can catch enough to feed ten guys.
